Most likely: A sonogram would likely show a tampon but that would generally not be necessary. You can just insert your finger into the vagina to see if you feel one. If you are still uncertain your gynecologist will easily be able to tell with an exam

Fibers: I would imagine the fibers would be too small to show up on an us.

i had a complete pelvic ultrasound yesterday... the tech asked me if i had a tampon in. i didn't. what would look like a tampon on an ultrasound?

Was it: transvaginal or transabdominal ?  If the former, possibly some difficulty inserting the probe.  If the latter, possibly air in the vagina.  Or, it could simply be a standard question.

when i'm in my period i go through a super+ tampon within 30 min, and have big clots. also have had an ultrasound. no doctor can tell me why either.

Just treat : There are many options for treatment and that is more important than answering the "why" question. At your age you should ask to be tested for von willebrands disease. Then consider a Mirena (levonorgestrel) iud, depoprovera or  a nonhormonal medication called Lysteda to decrease your bleeding.

Doesn't compute: I guess i don't understand the entire picture as to what your doctor means "thick".     I he's worried about cancer, an ultrasound wouldn't help - a pap or biopsy would.

Not common: Patients that are overweight may limit the visibility of the ovaries, but in the majority of patients, the ovaries can be identified with transvaginal ultrasound. The ovaries, after menopause, may become too small to identify with certainty. Unfortunately, there is still no satisfactory method for screening for ovarian cancer prior to a patient becoming symptomatic.

if i had a vaginal ultrasound 9 weeks after sex & all that could be seen was my iud, what are the chances of missing a sac that had not developed?

Accepted Answer

Very unlikely: The chances are very unlikely that you are pregnant if the IUD is in place. If you still however have concerns of being pregnant, a simple over the counter pregnancy test or further serial or consecutive pregnancy blood tests will exclude pregnancy.

i have low right tummy pain and yellow stool, my right ovary cannot be found on ultrasound tummy or transvaginally. could the missing ovary cause this? which imaging would be best? thanks?

: No, it only means your pain is likely not caused by the right ovary which could be absent or atrophic or hidden by adjacent structures. Your stool is yellow which is not really abnormal so I wonder why you mention it. The next imaging test depends on the physical exam and your basic lab results but I think CT of the abdomen and pelvis with oral contrast will be the next step if symptom persists.
