Takes time!: First the gas has to get absorbed enough to get out of the view which takes a few weeks, then for the bubble to get out of the view completely takes 6 weeks.  Depending of the extent of the retinal detachment, sometime it takes months before full function of the cells is regained!

how long after a vitrectomy does it take for the gas bubble to absorb and vision to return?

6-12 weeks: If the gas fill is 100%, the average rate of gas absorption is about 10%/week.  Some patients will have complete resorption in 8 weeks and some as long as 12 weeks.  Usually patients will begin to be able to see letters when the gas bubble is 45% or less (the macula is no longer covered by the gas that reflects light away).  Best visual acuity is not realize until about 3 months after surgery.

i've been prescribed hydroxychloroquine 200mg twice a day. i have terrible bubble gut and gas when i take this in the morning dose. is it possible  to take both doses at night so i don't deal with the symptoms during the day? it's really uncomfortable

You should: not double the dosage of this medication!

Try taking it AFTER BREAKFAST!!

Gas bubbles in eye: Contact the eye surgeon to express your concerns. S/he can advise you as to what to do—wait, or return to office for further treatment. I suspect the gas bubbles will be absorbed in time, but eye surgeon can confirm/deny that.

Good question: usually some relief comes in a few days.  Full healing depends on extent/depth/size of reflux or ulcers.  If no relief in a week, see your doctor.

Depends on meds: Your surgeon likely used a postoperative mydriatic/cycloplegic agent that keeps your pupil dilated &amp; you ciliary muscle relaxed, both to ease postoperative pain. Occasionally, if laser endophotocoagulation is used during the vitrectomy, there is an infrequent occurence of residual mydriasis (iridoplegia) from laser damage of the short ciliary nerves. Most cases: dilation may last few weeks.

can you take gas x long term would it cause harm to ur body like colon or anything like that? and can u take it with metamucil? also have a bubbly gas feeling in chest around rib cage is this colon cancer? im 38?

: Yes you can take it long term without getting all that. yes you can take it with metamucil but good to take it with some interval. the symptoms mentioned are not those of cancer. It is best to get your diet regulated by avoiding foods which give you gas so you can eventually get rid of all medicines, Good luck.

Usually not: Gas is inserted in the eye to mechanically hold the retina in place for re-attachment surgery.  If air, then it will spontaneously absorb.  If synthetic gas, it sill stay a long time and may lead to the development of cataracts which can be removed, restoring vision.  The prognosis depends upon the extent of the retinal detachment and its length of time before treatment. Ask retinal doctor.

Gas bubble: It is confined to the gastrointestinal tract. Contrary to several myths, it does not travel to your chest or brain!!

Accepted Answer

Disturbing: If you indeed have gas or bubble from the vagina, you should be seen by a gynecologist and examined thoroughly.  This may well depend on your age and if you have had surgeries in the pelvic area, child birth or any instrumentation "down there".  You may have developed a communication between your colon and your vagina (colo-vesicle fistula) and this needs attention. This can happen to the bladder.
