why is it that in a quiet room i hear my ears ringing?

Tinnitus: Ringing in the ears or tinnitus is always present.  It is an electrical or flow noise that occurs in the head.  When we have eustachian tube problems or hearing loss, these sounds are often unmasked and become apparent.  If a room is quiet enough, most people will experience tinnitus.  You should also consider having a hearing test to check for unrecognized hearing loss.

sometimes hear ringing heartbeat in ears lying down at night. not present at other times, when standing in quiet room hear mild tinnitus but doesnt pulsate. google has scared me. is pulsatile tinnitus only lying down, not every night, a concern?

: While pulsatile tinnitus is also usually benign, it can be associated with potentially serious blood vessels abnormalities within the brain. For this reason I recommend that you consult an ENT specialist for advice.

Possible nerve damag: Many causes but a common cause is damage from too much noise to the auditory nerve or vascular insufficiency  to the nerve area in the ear.

Stop using headphones  with loud music and noises coming through.

It could be tinnitus: Need to see ENT form evalation and possible treatment.Tinnitus is difficult to treat.

Tinnitus: Some types of hearing loss cause tinnitus or ringing.., its not the other way around. Check it out with an ENT specialist.

dog started barking tonight. every time he did, my ear would ring. tinnitus sufferer already. now when i talk i get a ringing/beep in ear or if i hear certain noises it happens. this came out of nowhere! i have tmj too. never experienced this before?

: Evaluations: See both an ENT and a Pro-Facial Pain specialist.  You may have the concurrent problems that are either related or just coincidental.

: At this point, unlikely to be an ongoing reaction to the vaccine, and more likely to represent coincidental middle ear infection, perhaps secondary to sinusitis.  This is likely also triggering headache.  Agree with visit to ENT, but your primary doctor could also handle.

is an mri better than a ct for diagnosing ear/hearing problems that cause tinnitus? i have a high-pitched ringing in both ears all the time, and can't pop my ears. vitamin b12 and steroids have not helped. any suggestions would be great?

: For the type of structures being imaged MRI will be better for detail. However, causes for tinnitus remain extremely difficult to find and there is no guarantee that the MRI will prove to be diagnostic.

sister-in-law, 42, ear ringing & pressure (more in one ear) after covid vac in april.has tinnitus. saw ent - hearing test normal, was asked to come back in 3 mo. dr also said it be could be a benign brain tumor, no scans were done. second opinion?

: Am rather confused.  On what basis could your doctor diagnose, a "benign brain tumor" in absence of clinically confirmative findings or proof on imaging?  This would cause me to lose confidence and find a second opinion.  So, I fully agree.  Go for it!

i was at a park and someone opened a huge firework and it blasted close to my ears. when in silent room i hear this constant sound like weeee but i dont know if its tinnitus or if this sound was there before the incident what does tinnitus sound like?

: Tinnitus can have a different sound to individuals.  It might be a ringing sound, a swishing sound, or possibly something else.  Schedule an appointment with an Audiologist, and be evaluated.
