why is it important to eat the recommended amount of lipids when trying to lose weight?

Can eat less: Fats are the most calorie dense of type of food: 9 calories per gram compared with 4 calories per gram of protein and 4 cal/g of carbs. So eating less fat allows you to eat more and still keep your total calorie count low which is needed to lose wt. But some fat, especially monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fat is good on a diet because it's filling and lasts longer. Balance is good.

i ate two glazed donuts 40 mins before lipid test and my cholesterol came back high. should i retest? i normally do not eat donuts but my boss had brought them in from a new place and i wanted to try?

: Read what fasting means.  Learn to follow directions.  Tell boss not to bring unhealthy foods to work. Prob did not affect lipid test but maybe glucose. Get a family tree for early heart disease, age of deaths and causes and share with your Dr. Move to DASH eating plan and get rechecked in few months.  Keep BMI less than 25. Live long and prosper.

Heart healthy: Persons with high cholesterol should follow a diet that is low in fat, and cholesterol. A healthy diet would include fruits, vegetables, low fat meats such as chicken, fish and turkey. You would want to avoid a lot of red meat. You should consider grilling, broiling, or baking your food instead of deep frying. Reading food labels is important as well, some foods will surprise you.

Vegetables are your: Friends.  And not smothered in butter and salt.  Lean meats no larger than a deck of cards or your palm. Fresh fruit is also good.  Minimize yellow cheeses in favor of white cheeses .  Eggs are ok but egg whites are better.  This is a lifestyle so don't go to extremes by totally eliminating foods but rather each meal should be balanced and is a new opportunity to make better choices.

Diet and exercise,,: Your total cholesterol is not very high, the triglycerides can be lower, and the LDL is important to get low  like below 100.  However your HDL is high at 56 and that's good as it helps offset the ldl/bad cholesterol.  Your goals should be to get the total below 200 and the LDL below 100.  The triglycerides should be under 150.  Diet ; exercise should help or you can see your dr. For a statin med.

Average: Your HDL chol is low- the only way to improve is to exercise daily and to keep ideal body weight.
Keep the LDL level around 70 if you have strong fh of coronary artery disease.
Your triglycerides are borderline high which can be corrected by daily exercise and proper diet.(low in carbohydrate  and sweets).

since my childhood my lipid profile is bad, tg 400, hdl 33, ldl 120. i take 10mg zocor (simvastatin) only. do i need to take any other medicine? i am 55 yr old.

Consult doctor: Your tg is high and HDL is low. Fish oil may help with both. Rather than looking for more medication you may wish to modify your diet by reducing saturated fats and carbohydrates and increasing physical activity. Losing weight may help too. In any case, it would be prudent to discuss all of these issues with your doctor so that s/he may treat you rather than lab results.
