polyglycitol in the sugar free candies. if it has calories then why use it as a substitute? what's the dietary diff btwn that & regular sugar?

Polyglycitol: Polyglycitol is listed as having 3 calories per gram versus sugar(sucrose) which has 4 calories per gram. It is half as sweet as sugar. Brown sugar is less refined than white sugar and thus has a small amount of some minerals. However the quantity is so small that there is no health benefit.

In moderation: Sugar Free does not mean free of calories, and sugar free candy generally is made with sugar alcohols.  Sugar Alcohols are poorly and incompletely absorbed by the intestines, so eating a lot will give you bad gas and diarrhea.  Taken in moderation, sugar free candy is better for your teeth than regular candy, and is a useful tool for diabetics and people on low carbohydrate diets.

Yes: This should not affect your spirituality nor attentiveness.  If you are going to Catholic church, you are told not to eat prior to communion so this could be an obstacle.  Otherwise it is not a problem.

controversial: I am of the opinion that teaching our kids to crave sweets is not that good, whatever the source of sweetener.  If you do, certainly sugar free have less calories. With 100 empty calories for each piece of candy in many, 1/day can cause a pound per month of unwanted weight gain.Sugar free avoids this short term issue, but still may pattern a kid to a lifetime of overindulgence.

i'm on a 1600 calories diet, advised by my nutritionist, today i found some sugar free candy and i think i ate a little bit too much. i have ibs as well and i think the candy caused bloating, is the only different thing i took. . is it possible?

: Bloating with gas is one common side effect of xylitol, the common sugar free ingredient. You should be fine.

Yes: it will help to secrete more saliva , if stone is blocking will flush it out , go back for follow up . some times need a procedure to extract the stone from duct.

i ended a 3 day(72-80 hours) clear liquid fast(juice, candies, and water), and now have watery diarrhea after eating; should i be concerned? i ate a small meal of green beans and mashed potatoes?

: Such a diet can cause liquid stools. Of course it's highly deficient in nutrients and I'm not a fan of them unless it's for medical reasons. As you resume solid foods bowel movements will return to normal eventually.
