A member asked:

Polyglycitol in the sugar free candies. if it has calories then why use it as a substitute? what's the dietary diff btwn that & regular sugar?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Polyglycitol: Polyglycitol is listed as having 3 calories per gram versus sugar(sucrose) which has 4 calories per gram. It is half as sweet as sugar. Brown sugar is less refined than white sugar and thus has a small amount of some minerals. However the quantity is so small that there is no health benefit.
