hi my 18month old daughter has a small grey area on the white part of her eyeball. its not a spot more a patch + can only be seen when she looks up?

Mgt/ workup: Usually this represents an increased area of pigmentation. If she is otherwise well and seems to respond to light, I would suggest a follow up visit with your PCP.

Most likely: It is likely some scleral/conjunctival pigmentation or a nevus (eye freckle).  Ocular pigmentation is common in patients with darker skin pigmentation.  You should see an eye doctor just to be sure though.

Corneal ulcer: The iris is inside the eye and rarely changes except to dilate and contract.  The cornea, the clear window at the front of the eye, can develop an ulcer spot (a collection of bacteria) which looks white on top of the iris, causes local redness in the sclera and pain.  This can be serious and should be seen by her ophthalmologist.  If she is a contact wearer, take them out right away.

my daughter has a red spot on the white of her eye, this appeared about 3 years ago, optometrist said its just a freckle  shoul she get it removed?

Depends: Most freckles on the whites of the eyes are brownish in color.  Red spots could include minor vascular loops termed angiomas.  Penetrating nerves through the whites look greyish black.  Check with a pediatric ophthalmologist for an accurate diagnosis and the possibility (or need) for removal. This is not something optometrists have the background for.

Grey spots: Your daughter may have brushfield spots which appear on the iris. They usually are found in children with Down's syndrome,but they can appear in normal people and are benign

Her age? : Many explanations.  If she has periods, then migraine is a common cause.  Many other things could cause these symptoms.  Please have her doctor take a look and get a proper examination and treatment.
