Not necessarily: Costochronditis can occur intermittently. It is the inflammation of the joints where your ribs meet your breast bone. There are many causes. It is usually self limiting, but can recur. You can take OTC medications like Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Advil to relieve the pain if you need to.

i'm 20 years old, i have had chest pain in both breast burning in my nipples and now it just the right breast that hurts. what could these be?

Muscles or skeletal: First what is causing the pain? Is it under the nipple, in the breast, in the muscles under the breast, being referred to the nipple from the shoulder? Any discharge, bloody, milky, pus? Are you on birth control pills? Have you ever been pregnant? Get to your doctor who will put this puzzle together.

i'm 28 years old asian male.i have a chest pain.it's been around 3 years now.it happened last night.it occurs on the left side below the breast and lasts for about 5 minutes.it isn't very painful but it hurts more when i take a deep breath.thank you.

Time to see a doctor: Random intermittent brief chest pains means one should talk with his doctor. In young adults, chest pain could very rarely be a heart attack. It more likely is something such as myocarditis, pericarditis, other heart symptoms, costochondritis (inflamed rib cartilage), pleurisy, or anxiety attack symptoms. The ER can evaluate, if a patient is not able to contact a primary care doctor.

CP can be serious : This could be pain from the chest wall muscles but also could be more serious. If it lasts more than a few seconds at a time you should really call your doctor or go to an urgent care or emergency department for a more detailed history and physical.

Chest wall: Glad the tests are normal so far.  The most likely cause is chest wall(muscles) or breast, or scar tissue from your prior heart surgery.  If your heart doctor says it is safe, a therapeutic trial of an antiinflammatory like naproxen might be useful.  Have you had a mammogram recently?

Chest xray: It is unlikely that you have angina/heart disease given your age and fact that this is constant and for a month.  You don't mention breathing, cough, sputum, fevers.  Have you had some sort of trauma?  Is it positional, reproducible by pressing? You might have pneumonia, or inflammation/damage to major blood vessels or if it is superficial it is musculoskeletal and needs time to heal.

Chest wall: Probably a chest wall strain -- what have you been doing ? Could be work or activity related -- did you fall ?  Please go see your doctor.

Strained muscle: Your description suggests a strained pectoralis muscle. Rest, heat, massage, simple analgesics (e.g., ibuprofen or naproxen) and time should relieve your pain. Good luck.
