Different physiology: The blood vessels in the glomeruli are damaged by inflammation in the nephritic syndrome sufficient for at least a few of them to bleed. They merely leak protein in the nephrotic syndrome, in which obvious inflammation in the classic sense is not visible but protein-retaining molecules in the gbm are lost. Famously, the membranoproliferative glomerulonephritis family produces both syndromes.

However, there should not be any sugar in the urine unless there is loss of kidney function and/or high levels of sugar in blood (e.g. Due to diabetes). Excessively high blood sugar can be very serious, leading to neurological deterioration, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and even stupor or coma.

Glycosuria usually occurs when blood glucose level exceeds 180 mg/dl.

Person gets diabetes: Weight gain and obesity, especially from overeating sugars and carbohydrates, can lead to "insulin resistance" disorder. The person's pancreas then has to work super hard to make enough insulin. The pancreas eventually burns out and cannot make enough Insulin . . . At which time the blood sugar will get so high that it spills through the kidneys and into the urine. He has diabetes now.
