why do tonsil stones smell so bad?

Bacteria: Tonsil stones - tonsilliths - are concretions of impacted food/saliva and bacteria that get traped in the crypts of the tonsils. The bacteria and the decaying food create the bad smell.

i have tonsil stones. they come frequently and can be on the larger side. they smell and cause bad breath, can there be anything done about this?

: Probably cryptic tonsillitis: presents with bad breath, chronic sore throat, and expelling of foul-smelling cheesy lumps.  Offending organism is not usually strep germ.  I would recommend to see an ENT specialist for proper medical or surgical care.

You may be right: Tonsil stones exist and range from smelly, cheesy to actual stones. You may have small tonsils, but almost everyone has some tonsillar tissue.

One theory for treatment is a clean oral cavity with brushing often and maybe mild whiteners with peroxide.

Sinus infection ?: May very well be. Have your physician take a look, may require antibiotics.

Dental exam/ cleanin: g.Sinus infection possible,reflux possible. Discus with treating physician(tonsillectomy,Dentist,or Family doc).Floss teeth gently. Good luck.

Gum disease: Bleeding gums can be a sign that you are at risk for, or already have, gum disease. These bacteria, along with mucus and other particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless toxic “plaque” on teeth causing the gums to become inflamed and to easily bleed. Bleeding may be a sign of a serious problem, which should be checked by a dentist.

i've had my adenoids removed and a partial tonsillectomy yet i still have tonsil stones gathering down deep in my throat. i can taste and smell them. ?

Tonsil stones?: Without tonsils do not know how you think you have tonsil stones "deep in throat".  This sounds as if you may have an esophageal diverticulum or other collection of decaying tissue in a pocket or outpouching of tissue. See an ENT doctor and have this examined.  Good luck.

No: Having tonsillar stones is not normal, nor is pain in the tonsils. It would be prudent to consult an ENT specialist.

Tonsil stones : Tonsil stones are the result of chronic changes in the crypts of the tonsil.  Actually food gets stuck and hardens in the crypts and causes a local infection and thus bleeds.  The food putrifies and is smelly when it is expressed from the tonsil.   You need to get your tonsils out.  You can try a water pic jet spray to help clean out the crypts.
But at the end of the day,  they need to be out.

ENT: You need and ear, nose and throat doctor.  They can remove the stones,  it is easy and should be painless.
