Several possibles: There are a couple types of movement disorders that occur mostly at night.  One is a variant of restless leg syndrome, called periodic limb movements disorder of sleep.  This can seem like kicking or writhing so might not be what you mean  there are some other movement issues that could cause actual muscle twitching and smaller movements.  If possible have a video taken to show doc or sleep eval.

Twitching: There is normal twitching and then twitching that can be seizure activity. Twitching can be gently stopped where as a seizure cannot be manually stopped. Take a video and show your doctor. That will help with the diagnosis. All the best.

? sleep myoclonus ?: Infants under a year of age may have a pattern called benign sleep myoclonus. The movements stop when they are awake. It is more common under 6 mo than later. Other random movements (than just legs) can also occur.

i have porphyria varigata and is anemic. i get like heavy pain at night in legs and back and then i start to get like twitching and spamas and i feel very sire and it feels like fits..can you please assist. i do yake iron tablets?

: Obviously some physician had to diagnose this rare condition so you must have access to a specialist in this disorder.  It is treated by periodic removal of blood from your body. My reading states that iron should be avoided unless you're not getting blood removal treatment(phlebotomy). Your specialist educates you on what triggers of attacks to avoid, dietary advice,&amp;medications for nerve pain.

See MD today: Twitching can be associated with so many things, from a glucose problem to a calcium problem to central nervous system issues,  do not take chances and be seen today.  Let someone drive you to the clinic or ER.

Neurologist: The 2 symptoms may not be interrelated. Twitching of the lip is usually due to an irritable superficial nerve. An eyelid seems more often affected. However constant twitching for 12 hours is a long time. ? from caffeine,fatigue,stress. i am experiencing night time leg twitching/jerking movements. what is causing this? this prevents me from falling asleep. what can i do

Need evaluation: During that interval between wakefulness and sleep there is some normal shifting around of arms and legs.  This does not normally require treatment.Anxiety can make these movement more pronounced and when anxiety is treated they lessen and sleep comes more quickly.
Sometimes however when the restless movements are very  bothersome they represent restless legs syndrome (rls) and need meds.

i have noticed muscle twitching after taking zoloft (sertraline) 200mg at night in my arms and legs i usualy go 2 sleep straight away but not yesterday is this ok?

My opinion: No: Zoloft (sertraline) can cause a creepy crawly feeling or twitching in the arms and/or legs.  This is thought to be due to spillover into dopaminergic neurons especially at the higher doses. It can be calmed down with klonopin, but you need to review the pro's and con's of having abnormal muscle movements with your treating physician.

56 year old male, do drink every night, have high ferritin. recently find that muscles burn whilst working in workshop, legs cramp,twitching in sleep?

Hemochromatosis?: High ferritin may be a sign of hemochromatosis, a disease of excess iron storage in liver and other organs. If diagnosed and treated early, its serious complications (cirrhosis and heart and gonadal failure) can be prevented or reduced.  I recommend you see a hematologist.
