what is causing my burning feet and what should i do about it? i'm young, don't drink often and have never smoked but at night my feet feel burning hot and keep me awake. what could be the cause of this and what should i do about it?

Well : Well this can mean a few different things. You may be dealing with flat feet and/or plantar fasciitis. Both of these problems can lead to the symptoms you described, especially if you are a runner or walk very long distances without supportive shoes. Plantar fasciitis is a condition in which the plantar fascia (thick band of tissue on the bottom of your foot) is inflammed. Stretching and wearing the right shoes can help.
Also vitamin deficiencies can cause this problem ( commonly b vitamins). Even diabetes can cause a neuropathy (nerve damage) which can lead to burning in the feet and legs.
As you see there are many possibilites. I recommend a visit to your primary care provider for a more detailed history and examination. 
In the mean time wear shoes with good arch support, take a multi-vitamin, also an anti-inflammatory can be used in the mean time like advil or ibuprofen.

my feet burn and it feels worse when i lay in bed to sleep at night. feels very uncomfortable like my feet are literally burning on fire. what could cause this problem?

Burning feet : This can be a fungal skin infection, nerve inflammation(disease)  or a nutrition deficiency

Exercise : Burning feet after walking or running is commonly reported and causes include,fatigue, heating of the skin, improper footwear including the inner soles and type of Sox worn, pre-existing skin irritation of the soles of your feet, improper technique. Peripheral neuropathy can be a cause especially if you have vitamin B deficiency. Learn proper technique and best footwear for your workouts.

Weird foot sensation: A good likelihood is that you may be experiencing some initial symptoms of diabetic neuropathy.  This can lead to weird altered sensations such as burning, tingling, and even increased warmth.  By controlling your blood sugar this can curb some of these weird sensations.  Also some of your medications may add to some weird sensations as well.

Unusual: It would be unusual for you to have a neuropathy at your age, but without additional historical facts (past medical history, family history etc.) hard to gauge.  The symptoms may reflect something that is neurologic (e.g. Small fiber neuropathy) or hematologic so seeing your doctor for a referral might be helpful.

Neuropathy: These sensations are referred to as "parasthesias" and reflect a nerve problem such as neuropathy, tarsal tunnel syndrome, or radiculopathy.

Every time?: Alcohol consumption if a heavy drinker has been known to cause thiamine deficiency which can cause burning. However, i would not expect that to occur immediately after drinking, and only after drinking. Hopefully, there wil be other input here for you.

Hot foot!: Are your feet exposed? If you are in your bear feet you should cover them. If you are wearing apparel, then I would suggest you try using powder. Also socks that are cotton usualy breath better.
