Not normal : First of all, discontinue using the contacts till you see your Eye doc. Your symptoms are not normal and may indicate that the contact lens is improperly sized, or you're sensitive to the type of plastic or solution that you're using. For your eye health its best to play it safe and have a reevaluation.

Need fitting: Like for halloween perhaps? It is generally safe to use contact lenses but even if you only use them for one day you should have an eye exam and fitting for lenses. This is so an appropriate curvature can be selected, and to be sure you know how to insert and remove the lens. I have seen people develop a corneal ulcer with less than one day of use, so there is always some risk.

Contact lenses.: Several extended wear lenses are FDA-approved for up to seven days of continuous wear, and at least two brands of silicone hydrogel EW lenses — Air Optix Night &amp; Day (Alcon) and PureVision (Bausch + Lomb) — are approved for up to 30 days of continuous wear.During your contact lens fitting and follow-up, your optometrist or ophthalmologist will advise you whether you can wear EW contacts overnight and how many days of continuous wear your eyes can tolerate.

You : You are doing the right things.  The computer itself will not cause damage, but dryness can effect your ability to perform your job.  Keep up with the tears and consider gel tears that are available over the counter which can be longer lasting.  Once you get 40 and beyond, reading glasses may be needed as well.

I : I recommend that you get a second opinion about refractive surgery. It is unusual for one eye to be "okay" and the other eye "to be bad" for refractive surgery. I am concerned that both eyes are not acceptable for refractive surgery.

There are alternatives too, such as phakic intraocular lenses, for patients who are not good candidates for laser refractive surgery.

Cost vary from place to place. However, i recommend that you do not select a physician based on price alone. Getting something cheaper is not necessarily better. In general, expect to spend about $2000 - $3000 per eye.

Solution not lens: Generally, we see that patients who have contact lens allergies are sensitive not to the lens but to the disinfection solutions.  We usually attempt to transition patients to a hydrogen peroxide system and if necessary to daily disposables.  Addressing environmental allergens is very important as well.

Generally no. : If your contact lenses are fitted well and your eyes tolerate the well. Then generally no major ocular problems develop. I advise that you continue with regular, annual eye exams if you continue wearing contacts. Also it's a good idea to have backup glasses.

Contact Lens Break: There is no definite answer for this.  If your contacts do not bother you, you can wear them all day.  Remember to take them out at night even if they are "extended wear" because sleeping with contact lenses increases the risk of infection.  If the lenses bother you, wear glasses as much as possible and have your eyes examined by your doctor.
