A 27-year-old member asked:
what is the most recommended contact lens for allergic eyes?

Solution not lens: Generally, we see that patients who have contact lens allergies are sensitive not to the lens but to the disinfection solutions. We usually attempt to transition patients to a hydrogen peroxide system and if necessary to daily disposables. Addressing environmental allergens is very important as well.

Depends: If the allergy is to something in the environment, than most soft lenses are fine. If the allergy is to the contact lense, then you might ask your ophthalmologist to recommend a gas permeable lens or perhaps a daily wear soft lens.

Are contact lens good for your eyes?

Well...: Good is a relative thing. As long as you are not allergic to the material contacts are made of, and you take appropriate measures to clean and care for your lenses, contacts can be worn daily without concern. They are very, very safe.
