why does my arm fall asleep when i put it in front of my head laying down on my stomach? is it normal?
also why does my left arm feel like it wants to go to sleep when i fall asleep? should i be worried?

May be nerve problem: If an arm falls asleep, goes numb or tingly, or has changes in circulation, just in certain positions of the arm, there may be compression of the nerves and/or blood vessels to that arm. A primary care doctor, neurologist, and physiatrist (physical medicine & rehabilitation doctor) can help figure this out. Sometimes special x-rays are done to see if there is a problem of the nerve at the spine.

why do my arms fall asleep when sleeping on the recliner and my arms are just at my sides ?

Arm numbness: The feeling of falling asleep is like numbness.  Sometimes this happens during sleep because there are no position changes.  Movements of the arms tend to alleviate numbness sometimes.  This is especially true in carpal tunnel syndrome.

Although I cannot make a diagnosis based on the information I have so far, perhaps a doctor visit, more information, or nerve conduction testing would help.

Not uncommon: Most often this is associated with pinched nerves at wrist (carpal tunnel syndrome), but could be compressing nerves at elbow or even shoulders (thoracic outlet), and it would be beneficial to get this diagnosed.  See your doctor but also, try wearing wrist splints at night and see if it helps.

my shoulders and arms fall asleep at night while i sleep. will this have any long term effects? i am worried about it causing blood clots.

Sleeping habits: It may be that you are falling asleep on top of your arms, or with your neck in a crooked position, causing compression of a nerve.  If a nerve is compressed for long enough, you will develop paresthesias, the medical term for "pins and needles."  this improves with changing position or shaking the affected arm.  Changing your pillow or sleeping surface may reduce  falling asleep on your arms.

Limbs fall asleep: Wondering if nerve entrapment at the cervical spine (neck) exists. Recommend checking with your family doctor for more workup.

my left arm falls asleep when i sleep on my right side.  could this be spondylosis? everytime i fall asleep on my right side, my left arm falls asleep and becomes numb.  my nuerologist says this is due to a compressed nerve.  could i have spodylosis?

While : While lying on your right side, how do you position your left arm? Depending on what part of your arm goes numb you may be mechanically compressing the ulnar nerve at the elbow or the median and ulnar nerves as they enter the upper arm from under the pectoralis minor muscle. Most people who sleep on their sides bring the opposite arm across the chest compressing the nerves. If it is the ulnar nerve at the elbow, the pinky and ring fingers will go numb. Pectoralis compression can make the whole hand go numb. This is unlikely to be related to spondylosis.

Paresthesias: Could be due to kinking your neck while reading or watching tv in bed.  If there is cervical neck nerve compression due to arthritis or trauma (recent or previous), the nerves radiating from the neck can be compressed by the kinking.  Some who have injury/arthritis in their elbow crease are sensitive to lying flat on their backs via pressure to ulnar nerve emerging under elbow. Carpal tunnel ?

TOS: 30's person has bilateral (most unusual)  arm global dysesthesias at rest. Absent neck pain there is concern for impingement in region of brachial neural plexus. If only occurring in lower arms, carpal tunnel syndrome becomes a consideration.  See an Osteopath or Neurologist. Could be Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, but this is usually not bilateral.

Possible: Might also be carpal tunnel or another peripheral nerve syndrome. Hard to tell without better understanding of your symptoms.
