See DR: You have unusual medical problems for you age. Why clindamycin? Allergy to antibiotic usually causes hives ALL OVER. The timing is right but the localization raises questions. Are you sure it is hives? Stop clindamycin and see your DR immediately. you may need a dermatologist.

See a dermatologist: Begin with a diagnosis. If hives, is it physical (dermographism) or allergic or other. How long? If hives daily for more than 6 weeks, likely chronic urticaria, which is not an allergy. Benadryl (diphenhydramine) is a poor choice because it is more of a sleeping pill which should never be used if you drive or work. Zyrtec  (generic ceterizine) is more effective and much safer. You can also try 1 or 2 claratin.

my hives spread from my armpits to almost my entire body in under 20 minutes, and my eye started to swell. is this a sign of a severe reaction?

Yes, go to ER: Yes, take an anti-histaminic immediately. If your throat feels tight or swollen go to the ER or call for help NOW!!!
Also if you hear yourself wheezing or dizzy/faint

just moved from norcal to socal. developed jock itch in the groin 2 weeks ago, and i just started getting hives on body (chest under boobs, armpit, back, neck). the more i scratch, the more hives appear. ive taken loratadine. been super stressed?

: Has your jock itch, which is a yeast or fungal infection caused by friction&amp;moisture, been cleared up? If not, the hives may be secondary to your jock itch. I find that atarax  is more effective in treating hives. The cause of hives can be elusive though. If they continue,  I recommend seeing an allergist for evaluation&amp; treatment. A combination ointment like mycolog can clear up jock itch.

ive had chronic hives for the past 8 months on both lower legs & my right armpit. i think theres a chance it could be cholinergic urticaria. could this be caused by any of these medications - sertraline, co-codamol, tramadol, amphetamine?

: Medications are potential causes of chronic urticarial rash, but there are several possible conditions also associated. Testing for specific allergies, autoimmune disease, cancer and thyroid disease  and CBC, diff  is recommended. Allergic responses to the medications listed should also be considered. Watch for breathing difficulty, weight loss and fatigue.

Maybe: Insect sensitivity with persistent exposure can cause havoc on skin.  First, try to confirm if you truly have bug bites, because you may just be experiencing hives.  Identifying triggers is notoriously difficult, but when they persist for &gt;6wks, one should see a physician to rule out dangerous syndromes. If insects are involved, given the time of year, have an exterminator check for bed bugs/fleas

Not specific: Allergy or allergy reactions are not specific to a particular food, allergen or drug. Meaning one can't say egg will give hives on arms and milk will give hives on face. If hives persist then one should be evaluated.

Ask your doc!: Talk to your prescribing physician. Tell him/her what you've noted above. It may or may not be related. Understand why you're supposed to take that antibiotic for that period of time. Are you better? What about the infection getting worse? How about switching to another antibiotic. Could you tolerate development of antibiotic resistance, diarrhea & yeast infections? Talk to ur doc about ur options.
