Calf pain: Sounds like your calf muscles are cramping. Do you exercise your legs? If not then you should try doing a specific  leg program to strengthen your calf muscles. You will need to do 4-5 sets of 20-25 reps of calf raises. Also i would incorporate exercises for your quads snd hamstrings and even your glutes. Progressive resistance exercises is the best way to prevent muscle problems.

?tarsal tunnel synd: If you have acquired nerve compression at the  medial ankle at the flexor retinaculum, you may well be compressing the branches of the posterior tibial nerve.  Have a podiatrist evaluate, and possibly do a nerve conduction study.

i sometimes get cramps on my legs during sleep. it only goes away if i point my toes toward my head. why is this happening?

I would try: Taking a magnesium supplement prior to bedtime. Magox 400 (magnesium oxide) is one you can try.

Muscle cramps are a: very unpredictable thing: they often occur as a result of physical activity though not necessarily at the time of physical activity. Why your toes spasm and my calves cramp is not really known. Strategies to minimize include being well-conditioned for activity, avoiding dehydration with adequate water and electrolytes, stretch, ensure adequate nutrition, reduce intensity/duration of exercise.

My advice: Would be to leave your short stubby toes the way they are.  People should be thankful for their health. Your short stubby toes work hard to take you from place to place.  Don't be so critical of their looks, they are doing a good job for you. (just my opinoin).
