No that is not true: but instead of picking first try salicylic acid shampoo and see dermatologist for great topical prescriptions to remove scales

May not be dandruff: Sores on the scalp fit more with folliculitis (inflammation around the follicles). There could be many reasons for this. If they are painful, I would recommend starting with a salicylic acid shampoo (like Neutrogena T sal shampoo). If the sores persist, I would strongly recommend an evaluation by a dermatologist.

Irritation/infection: These are usually triggered in an irritated scalp when common skin germs enter the glands supplying the hair root. Daily washing with a mild unscented shampoo may help, but if this is extensive a doc visit may be needed to help identify the germ &amp; select a prescription treatment.

Medical evaluation: See you are on Permethrin & clindamycin. Have you been treated for some form of parasites? Also note abscess and surgical drainage?  What was the cause/ offending germ? I think that you will need a physician who has a thorough knowledge of your overall condition, your diagnoses & your medications to pull this together.  Infectious disease?  Dermatology?

Particularly stressful events and situations can actually worsen seborrheic dermatitis almost immediately. There’s no cure for this condition, it is possible to get it under control and eliminate future flare-ups. Rec. See your pcp to get the final diagnosis and management.
