can't sleep. not even ambien (zolpidem) works. currently on remeron but don't sleep through the night. wake up with a racing heart even when calm & relaxed. help?

Sleep assessment: You need to rule out medical causes of sleep disruption if these sleep medications are not helping. For example, you may have an underlying sleep apnea or even a silent form of asthma, both of which can disrupt your breathing during sleeo and awaken you. Or you may have an underlying psychological condition affecting your sleep. Make an appointment with a neurologist who specializes in sleep probs.

Sedative effect: Yes Mirtazapine should help you sleep. It is called REMeron (mirtazapine) as a Brand name since it helps promote dream sleep stages. Initially you may even sleep too much. The oversedation should wear off after 7 to 10 days. If not, you might ask MD to co-prescribe duloxetine or venlafaxine with it to counter balance the side effects of sedation and increased appetite.

does mirtazapine put one to sleep better than trazodone? trazodone doesn't work for me anymore. do they work similarly?

Different mechanisms: Trazodone is a serotonin 2 antagonist/reuptake inhibitor and it blocks serotonin 2A receptors. Mirttazapine is an alpha 2 antagonist boosting both serotonin and norepinephrine. If trazodone does not work for you, mirtazapine can be tried although it is not as effective for insomnia in many. Speak with your prescribing physician.

Difficult to say: Remember everyone's body is different.  You really should review this with your prescribing physician.  As there are many options which are used to help issues like you describe in addition to the present medications that you appear to be on.  Sometimes meds like neurontin (gabapentin) or trazadone are used for exactly what you describe, but again you're best served by someone who knows you well, medically.

i want to know if diazapam 5mg will work after taking mirtazapine 45mg for two years. also can i take diazapam 5mg with zolpidem 10mg or zopiclone 7.5mg? also which is better for sleep out of zolpidem and zopiclone?

i have insomnia for about a month and was prescribed trazaonde. side-effects were bad that was switched over to mirtazapine. ive been taking mirtazapine for about a week and still dont sleep the best. how long does the sedation take to work? weeks?

im having difficulty sleeping. ive tried ambien, sonata, lunesta, and mirtazapine. none of them get me to sleep or keep me asleep. what medication would work to help me to get to sleep and stay asleep for at least 8 hours?

: Try exercise, quiet comfortable atmosphere and bed to sleep in. Light meal several hours before bedtime, avoiding caffeinated drinks and sticking to the same time to go to bed -first. If not successful then see your MD for advice in your situation. Any med for sleep is habit forming and not good for health. Wishing you pleasant ZZZZZZZs

how does trazadone work compared to other sleeping meds like zopiclone , mirtazapine , lorazepam etc  .? ive got chronic insomnia / chronic anxiety ?
