CONSULT YOUR GYNECOL: You should consult your gynecologist if it is resent change in your periods.You will need a thorough exam and depending on the cause, you may need meds, birth control pills or if there is condition like endometriosis or leiomyoma etc, has to be treated.

Period cramps: Nsaid’s, ssri’s, hormone meds, otc meds containing diuretics, warm bath, heating pad, exercise ; acupuncture are excellent for pms / period. Avoid caffeine, chocolate, alcohol ; salt. Get gyn eval to r/o underlying pathology. Consider omega- 3 fatty acids, magnesium (supplementation or through diet) or black cohosh with dr ok. Sipping chamomile can dissipate pain. Ginger helps w nausea.

Hard to guess: online but INFECTION is a possibility (Bladder, Pelvic) Is there any burning when you pass water? Do you have a discharge?? Best you go to Walk In or Emergency unit since severe lower abdominal pain can be serious..

It depends on the: rest of your recent menstruation history.  If you have had irregular bleeding in the past or recently stopped hormone or contraception pills, or implants, then that would explain why your periods are changing.  If you have had nothing to alter your periods, then other things like nutrition, stress, weight change, exercise, weather, mood can also play a role.  I would wait 2 weeks to see change.

Maybe, see your Dr.: Depending on your age and the number of chilren you have, there could be a number of causes. A few causes are:
primary dysmenorrhea(painful periods) can often be treated with birth control pills.
Endometriosis can be treated with numerous drugs including hormones or a drug called luron.
Adenomyosis usually treated with hysterectomy
fibroids can be treated with removal, lupron, (leuprolide) or hysterectomyy.

See below: It may be a variation on your normal pattern. If it is an occasional happening, you may ignore it. However, to see that you do not become anemic due to blood loss, you may wish to oral iron supplement.

Give more time: Birth control pills is a first-line treatment for painful and/or heavy periods. You need to try and give it a 2-3 months and hopefully you'll see improvement. If not, see your MD.
