the ball of my big toe itches. not in the joint or between toes. no rash. no discoloration. no odor. don't have diabetes. any suggestions?

? Callus: If there is thickening of the skin on your toe you may have a callus. Sometimes the area can cause itching. Sometimes a pumice stone may help to remove dead layers of skin and then you can apply some mild hydrocortisone cream. If this does not seem to be the problem, see your doctor for follow up.

Athlete's foot: Sounds fungal.  Keep clean and dry and apply over the counter antifungals.

A blister : You already made the diagnosis. It could be from friction and irritation or from fungus....You can try a topical antifungal in the event is it fungus.....

Athlete's Foot: You are probably suffering from athlete's foot. This is a common condition caused by a mild fungal infection. There are plenty of over the counter sprays and powders that you could pick up at your local pharmacy. You should start to see improvement after 2-3 days of using these sprays or powders.

Difficult unseen: Your situation is difficult without seeing the rash but should be seen by your Dr. to be sure and treat this appropriately.  There are several skin problems that could be but need prescriptions for the treatment.  I would see the Dr. for assistance. Hope you can get some relief.

There must be more: So the Dr saw you with severe, itchy dermatitis on top of your feet and did not see features of fungus. What, then, was the diagnosis? Allergic contact? And the treatment was Aquaphor????? Sounds like you need a potent prescription ointment, maybe a short course of prednisone [20mg alternate days for 3 doses].

Tinea pedis: Fungus causing more severe symptoms usually means there is a secondary bacterial factor. There may also have been an injury to the toe. See a dermatologist. Meanwhile you can get terbinafine (lamasil) or Clotrimazole cream otc. Safe to use at least twice a day. Ventillate their feet. Remove shoes ; sox in the home. Be sure they sleep in bare feet. Keep toenails clipped short. Check groins ; hands.

Itchy toes: Dry, itchy skin between your toes is often a sign of a fungal infection. The infection can often be cleared using over-the-counter medications like lamisil (terbinafine). If left untreated, the infection may spread to your toenails or other areas of your body, requiring more extensive treatment.

Poison ivy: Ask your pharmacist to recommend a nonprescription cortisone type ointment. If itching continues to bother you, take an antihistamine. Benadryl can be sedating and is good for bedtime. Claritin is nondrowsy and thus is better during daytime.
