Subungual hematoma: This is a term which means blood accumulation under the nail. Usually from a minor trauma, but frequently seen in runners, it sometimes will bleed initially and the nail is raised off the nail bed. You can cut the nail short up to where it's still attached, or it may detach itself over time. It will grow back, sometimes thicker and discolored

Sounds like fungus: Keep in mind... The fda has recently come out with a blanket statement that toenail fungus can not be cured.  It is "managed" by a number of modalities, but it can always come back in the future.  See a podiatrist for a treatment that is best for you.

Many: It may be the beginnings of a fungal toenail infection. There are many treatments, including topical solutions, oral medications, laser treatments, surgical removal, homeopathic remedies, etc.  The most used treatment is oral Lamisil (terbinafine) tablets once daily for 90 days.  See a podiatrist for what may be best for your specific needs and expectations.

: It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without additional history, physical examination and may be some tests. If there is not swelling, no discharge and no pain, it is not infected. If you have any of these, it warrants examination. If there is no infection the toe nail will grow back in 1-3 months.

Possibly fungal: Need a photo as too many causes of nail discoloration.  If onychomycosis(nail fungus),  it must be treated by an oral medication for 12 weeks as the dermatophyte is embedded in the nail and mudt be treated as the nail grows.  Also, the medication is occasionally damaging to the k=liver and must be monitored by blood tests of liver function.  Visual and touch exam by an internist should be done.

B-Brown/Black. Breadth 3mm or more.
C-Color change.
D-Digit. Thumb/big toe most common.
E-Extension via Hutchinson Sign.
F-Family history.
When in doubt-biopsy. It's simple.

Yellow nail fungus: Try  Vick's Vapo Rub on the nail.  Be patient.  It takes several months to see an improvement whatever method you use.

Difficult condition : You were doing fine with your description until you said”pus” was present “time to time.”   Some fungus do present with an exudate but more serous  or clear in color.   If fungus is within the nail plate, resolving is more difficult.  Many prescription and over-the-counter products are available. I am not aware of one product better than the other. Seek help of podiatrist if assistances required
