Holes?: You are probably feeling the normal texture of the gums which is referred to as stippling. It is a result of the microscopic elevations and depressions of the surface of the gingival tissue due to the connective tissue projections within the tissue. You can confirm this with your own dentist.

Irritation??: This could be an irritation you can see things like this when people put chewing tobacco in one place too long, or hold mints or candy as a habit in the same place for long periods of time.  I would analyze your routines and see if this applies to your situation, i would then have your dentist do a routine oral cancer screening and if necessary he/she will send you to an oral surgeon for biopsy.

See below: In the early stage of gingivitis, bacteria in plaque build up, causing the gums to become inflamed and to easily bleed during tooth brushing.  When gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis. In a person with periodontitis, the inner layer of the gum and bone pull away from the teeth and form pockets. These small spaces between teeth and gums collect debris and can become infect.

Good for you: Great reason to quit smoking entirely.  Or you can resume smoking in a week or two if you want lung/tongue/throat/larynx/gum/lip/jaw cancer, leathery skin, nicotine stained fingers, stroke, heart attack, and so money other gruesome ways to die.  As to "white stuff," probably OK but ask your Surgeon to take a look.

Should improve soon: The gum pain may be from the special clamp used to hold the rubber dam in place to keep the tooth isolated from bacteria and you protected from the cleaning solutions. May also be from the anesthesitic injection, or from the infection. You should improve soon. Ibuprofen 400 - 600 mg 4x/day for 2 - 3 days will help if it is from inflammation of the ligament that the tooth root sits in.

: This is not a canker sore since no pain present. Could be Leukoplakia, Oral thrush, or Oral lichen planus. Also an infection in gums or an oral injury. See your dentist for exam and treatment.
