See below: In the early stage of gingivitis, bacteria in plaque build up, causing the gums to become inflamed and to easily bleed during tooth brushing. When gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis. In a person with periodontitis, the inner layer of the gum and bone pull away from the teeth and form pockets. These small spaces between teeth and gums collect debris and can become infect.

Gum disease: Periodontal disease (infection of the gum tissue and bones surrounding teeth) is an increasing health risk which will not go away by itself, but requires professional treatment. Bleeding gums are not normal! in the early stage of gum disease, called gingivitis, the gums become red, swell, and bleed easily. If the disease is left untreated, it can eventually lead to loss of teeth. See a dentist.

Bleeding gums: You may have early gum disease. Everything you mentioned is a sign pointing to it. Gums should not bleed even if they always have in the past. If every time you pinched your arm it bled you would soon be in the er. It is not healthy for your gums to bleed and hurt or form white stuff (plaque) on them. Get to a good dentist to show you how to brush and floss your teeth and you will be healthy.
