Moment in time: Diabetes doesn't go away. Each blood sugar represents a moment in time. Even when patients are in stellar control, there can still be variability in the blood sugar so that some are high and some are low.

Stress: Sometimes when diabetic patients undergo stress (prolonged exercise for example) stress hormones (cortisol and adrenalin) can increase glucose. However it is still important for him to follow up with his doctor because it does not appear that the exercise he did was particularly stressful.  In general patients with type 2 diabetes experience hypoglycemia (low sugar) in response to exercise.

Sorghum: It digests slower, slowing the rise of serum glucose, therefore allowing for better control of diabetes. While this benefit is small, sorghum also has the bonus of being gluten-free, and it grows well in drought conditions.

Type II diabetes: There is a strong heritable component of diabetes, especially type ii. I don't know what symptoms you are currently experiencing, but the classic ones are polyuria, polydipsia, nocturia, and polyphagia. If you have symptoms, you should be screened with a hemoglobin a1c blood test or fasting plasma glucose test; especially if you are obese, or have additional risk factors besides family history.

: Your blood sugar was normal, however an isolated blood sugar cannot diagnose or rule out diabetes. Most common forms of diabetes take years to develop, acute events or drugs among others may make it surface abruptly.

It is also associated with slow wound healing, and with altered glucose (sugar) levels, an extreme example of which is diabetc ketoacidosis.

Obesity, age, genes: The major risk factors for type 2 diabetes are; obesity, especially if it is in the abdomen, advancing age, family history of diabetes, certain meds such as steroids, antipsychotics.  It typically occurs in obese adults (over age 40) but can occur in younger people as well.  The best prevention is to keep weight down and exercise.

It is critical if pregnant, to see a maternal-fetal medicine expert at a University setting or at King Faisal hospital in Riyadh.
