At times: Almost all  children on the autism spectrum have some sensory processing difficulties but it can also be a stand alone problem.  In either case the interventions are similar. A child with autism who is on the lower end of the spectrum may not be as actively involved in their therapy but the goal is to improve the integration of the sensory inputs to the central nervous system.

Definitely: Spd is a neurological disorder causing difficulties with taking in, processing & responding to sensory information about the environment & from within his own body(visual, auditory, tactile, olfaction, gustatory, vestibular &propioception). They can be unusually sensitive or insensitive to stimuli. There may be heightened brain activity in response to light, sound, touch, etc. It may have genetic causes and be present in persons w/ developmental disorders such as autism.

Autistic : Spectrum Disorder (ASD) has the deficits  in social communication that  you describe along with deficits in reciprocal social interaction plus stereotyped, repetitive movements &amp;/or narrow, restricted areas of interest. in speaking with my psychiatrist and she has told me that she believes that i am on the autism spectrum. i asked my pcp about an official diagnosis and help but my pcp said there isn't anything that can be offered as an adult. is that true?

: There is always help if you know the right person that could help. You are your best help, read about autism spectrum disease and cognitive behavior therapy. The most important thing is to find somebody that could help you understand based on history that you have and cooperating with your help to get better.

Work with doctor: Clonidine and Melatonin are very different drugs, not interchangeable. You need to speak to his doctor about your specific concerns. The doctor may be giving him a particular regiment for a particular reason. Do not play with the medications without involving the supervising doctor.
