The Office: of Dietary Supplements of National Institutes of Health's (odd.od.nih.gov) Recommended Dietary Allowance is 600 IU/day for males 19-50 years. As a vegan, it would be difficult to get in diet as principle sources are fatty fish, eggs, fortified milk. Vitamin D2 and D3 can be considered equivalent; most supplements are D3 (you don't need both). AM dosing ok; calcium recommendation is 1000 mg/d.

At once with food: I hope you're taking 2000 iu ; not 2000 mg which is 80 million iu, a massive overdose. There's no need to take d more than once a day, in fact some people choose to take a large dose once a week. It's better absorbed after food. : Yes, you are partially correct. The normal value is 30-100 by most lab references but some American medical societies define vitamin D deficiency is less than 20 and below 30 is insufficient. For AA and dark skin people, a level above 20 seems fine to me because the vitamin D level in this population is most often less than 20 and a level below 30 is considered quite low for a white person.
