i just started period and when i lay down i have painful muscle spasm in one side of lower back is this normal with no stomach cramps?

Positional muscle: spasm is not that uncommon during menses.  First there is uterine contraction which, if strong, can press on nearly blood vessels reducing the supply of oxygen to nearby muscles. When you lie down, shifts in blood vessel position in your pelvis may aggravate this phenomenon. As long as the spasm is temporary, I wouldn't be too concerned. Naproxen/ibuprofen should  help. hubby has severe muscle cramps in his legs , stomach, sides. potassium level fine. drinks plenty if water. what can help? usually every night.

Maybe magnesium: Supplements. Is he on any cholesterol lowering meds? One side effect of those is bad muscle cramping.

Muscle cramps: Get an evaluation.  Were you prescribed potassium due to a low level in your blood?  If so, have your blood level tested.  There could be other causes of muscle cramps such as a neuropathy, vascular problems, or medications like statins for cholesterol.

Abdomen, not stomach: You are injecting in your abdominal subcutaneous tissue - not your stomach. The needle would have to be six inches long to tet to your stomach. Won't cause cramps. Make sure to rotate your injection sites. See a nurse educator for more information.

Not typically: Not usually.  Muscle relaxants relax muscle spasms in skeletal muscles, which are not a real common cause of stomach cramps.  The GI system uses what is known as smooth muscles to propel food through, and there are also many more common non muscle related causes of stomach cramping as well, such as for example irritable bowel syndrome.  Consider being checked.

Cramp: Any exercise can lead to a muscle cramp so yes, sex can lead to a muscle cramp in the abdomen.

Muscle twinges: Your abdominal muscles are being stretched in ways they have not been asked to before. You don't even have to be doing something and can feel those sharp, sudden twinges. As long as they are not prolonged or crampy, you are fine. Just another sign that your baby is growing well and working on getting the house bigger!

Not enough info: You lost symptoms of many things from menses to mechanical pains. Re send your question with some history like how long have symptoms been present, anything like this before, all the time, what improves, worsens, did it follow some activity, and so forth

See a doctor: People can have stomach pain and spasms from different causes. After evaluation your md may decide to do further work to identify etiology.

muscle cramps along inside of rib cage from stomach to collar bone. happened a couple of times, not very severe. something to worry about?

Accepted Answer

Probably not: If it's just been a couple times and an isolated symptom, then don't worry about it.  It may be something as simple as having some gas which caused a reactionary cramp.  However, if your symptoms persist or worsen or are associated with other symptoms such as GI symptoms, then do go see a physician.
