Sore throat: Pain on swallowing can be due to a throat infection by a virus or strep. It also occur with inflammation of the thyroid gland or other neck structures. If painful swallowing persists without other signs of a viral infection, see your physician for evaluation,diagnosis and treatment. Appropriate tests will be ordered and perhaps a referral to an otolaryngologist will be made if indicated.

Dr. can check throat: New throat pain can be from a strep throat infection (antibiotics are needed), a cold or influenza (antibiotics usually not used), or from some other cause such as allergies or irritants. Usually, a person sees the doctor if the sore throat is bothersome, recurrent, or doesn't go away quickly (mainly to check for strep throat). Throat lozenges and Tylenol (acetaminophen) can help decrease pain.

Serious condition: Swelling and difficulty swallowing can be serious and needs immediate medical attention.  Go to an urgent care or er.

Neck pain: This discomfort could be from a muscular strain or the beginning of a throat infection. With an infection the whole throat usually becomes involved and reddend within a day. If a muscle is strained or inflammed, tenderness and discomfort on turning and twisting is present. See your Physician if symptoms persist or worsen for diagnosis and treatment.

i'm finding it very painful to swallow. this started after a cold. my neck also swells when i wake up and the whole of my neck hurts. what is wrong?

See a doctor ASAP: Am not sure what is going on without seeing and examining you, but neck swelling should never be ignored without a detailed exam and explanation for the cause, since it may be due to very severe processes and may portend impairment of your trachea and therefore breathing. See somebody soon and good luck. Hope this turns out to be little or nothing serious.

i maybe swallowed glass shards, a piece of bread fell on the floor and i ate it, only to realize after that there had been glass on the ground. if i did swallow any shards they were less than 2mm. it may be psychosomatic, but my neck hurts on 1 side?

See your Doc: Even though you suspect the pain to be psychosomatic , it continues to worry you.  From what you described, it sounds like you didn’t notice swallowing glass immediately.  This only occurred to you when you thought about there being glass on the floor.  The longer you worry without being checked, the worse you feel both physically and emotionally.  Ask your doctor for help so you can relax.

Neck pain: It sounds like you may have. Rarely something more serious is going on. Should be checked by your pcp.

I would be: Concerned. Have they been biopsies? If benign  they should go down. Assume they are reactive from some sort of infection and you are in good hands!!

i'm having neck pain and it hurts when i swallow the back of my neck when i swallow and the neck pain could possibly be from sleeping wrong i'm not sure. maybe you can help me out?

Muscle pain?: It may be due muscle discomfort from your sleeping position. Of course, it really needs a proper evaluation my your primary care. If it is severe, and/or unrelenting then you should see your primary care doctor next week. Hope this helps!
