Sore throat: Pain on swallowing can be due to a throat infection by a virus or strep. It also occur with inflammation of the thyroid gland or other neck structures. If painful swallowing persists without other signs of a viral infection, see your physician for evaluation,diagnosis and treatment. Appropriate tests will be ordered and perhaps a referral to an otolaryngologist will be made if indicated.
