Rib cartilage: Sounds as though you are popping some rib cartilage.  The ribs are joined to the sternum by cartilage.  With coughing and moving the abdominal wall against the upper body, something has to give and it is the cartilage.  Kinda like cracking the knucles.

Cartilage/ligament : It's usually the border of the cartilage and bone. They run together and can cause a popping sensation. It can happen also between the rib spaces if fluid gets trapped in the ligaments between the ribs.

Sounds like: your costal cartilage is rubbing against the adjacent one.  If it not painful or associated with a mass, it is probably nothing.  If it persists, show it to your doctor just to make sure.

Likely rib issue: Posssible you have a rib that is out of place or the cartilage between your sternum (breast bone) and ribs is irritated.  To make sure it is nothing else, easy enough to get a chest X-ray.  If no shortness of breath or cough o rather symptoms, likely nothing else going on.

Sinus pressure: It sounds as if you have a sinus infection.  Have a look at by your physician.  They will examine your sinus area with a speculum or a tiny endoscope and will be able to determine if that is the case.

Exam: It is possible to break a rib from coughing.  You can also have several lung problems that can cause similar pain.  It would be best to have an exam done, particularly if the pain is severe and/or you are short of breath.

i fell from 2m height 2 days ago got xrays done evey thing seemed ok. this morming i felt something pop in the back of my ribcage and now its painfull to cough, sneaze or even take deep breaths. the pain is in the back of rib cage at bottom side.

R/O STRESS FRACTURE : You need to rule out a stress fracture of the ribs. Get CXR AND RIB X-RAY. If negative a bone scan is indicated. It takes awhile to heal and you may need pain medication and close follow up. If healing is delayed you can have PRP = PLATELET RICH PLASMA TO EXPEDITE HEALING.

: This is likely musculoskeletal but I am not sure what you mean by “I went into shock”. What were you doing when this happened?
