Most stay unchanged: How large is your ovarian cyst? Most resolve after 13th week , but if you still have it at 20 weeks it should be checked regularly for growth. Most ovarian cysts do not change size in pregnancy and do not require any treatment. If you develop symptoms of pain due to the cyst or if the cyst significantly grows then you might need surgery to remove it. Most surgery is done prior to 20 weeks.

Unlikely: Its unlikely that it will go away, but it's also unlikely that it will cause a problem. The most concerning risks are torsion or rupture. Cancer is also a risk but very unlikely. Typically these cysts are followed intermittently with ultrasound during pregnancy. If you end up with a c/s, your doctor can look at it then and take it out.

a 4.0 * 3.6 * 2.7 cm ovarian cyst is on m right ovary. how big is that? can it be dangerous during pregnancy?

Quite common: It is quite common to have an ovarian cyst in pregnancy.  Really the only way a cyst can be dangerous to your pregnancy is if it twists on itself (torsion) and requires surgical removal during the pregnancy.  Most cysts that undergo torsion are significantly larger than yours.  If you have no symptoms of pain, i would not worry at this time.  If pain develops talk to you primary ob.

: Can you be certain that the cyst is the cause of your pain?  Ovarian cysts are not usually painful unless they rupture or twist in which case they can be surgically removed safely during pregnancy either laparoscopically or by open surgery.  I would abide by the advice of your obstetrician unless you wish a second opinion.

Not a cyst cause: In general, an ovarian cyst does not cause vaginal bleeding during pregnancy.  The usual causes would be an issue with the placenta, a growth on the cervix, premature labor, for instance.  You need to clarify with your doctor what the cause of the bleeding is to know how to treat.  However avoid intercourse, heavy lifting or exercise for now would be reasonable.

i found out during an er visit for a miscarriage that i have a 1cm hard ovarian cyst. this was my 1st pregnancy. should i be concerned?

Follow up: The size and description of the cyst are reassuring, but you should certainly have ultrasound follow up for certainty.

Ovarian cysts: It is normal for a small cyst to develop on the ovaries from time to time.  Most cysts are benign and a few may be malignant an require monitoring.  Most resolve in 6-8 weeks on their own and the discomfort can be controlled with ibuprofen.

if a woman has endometriosis and ovarian cysts gets pregnant, would it considered a high risk pregnancy? or any complications during pregnancy?

Endometriosis : No. The pregnancy itself would not be effected by either. Pregnancy improves endometriosis and functional cysts. Rest assured your pregnancy is low risk. Good luck and congratulations. DrG

Yes: Ovarian cyst are hormone dependent.  Most of the time we see growth during first stage of pregnancy when the ovary is the source of hormones for the embryo. At aprox 10 wks. The placenta takes over hormone production and the pregnancy becomes independent of the ovary and this is when we expect the cyst to shrink. Nevertheless ovarian chat should have close f/u during pregnancy.

Yes: Any pelvic change or growth can mimic symptoms.
