Next day?: If you are talking about having the upper teeth pulled and then a plate put in immediately, your more that likely can go back to work the next day.  It will depend on your pain, medications taking, and the type of work your have to do.  You should discuss the thoroughly with your dentist or oral surgeon prior to your procedure.  "don't bite off more than your can chew".

Depends on you!: I have sent patients back to work the same day or had them wait weeks.  This is really case specific because of the variation between dentures.  Factors involve how many recent extractions have been done, whether this is your first denture, how many implants are involved, and in how much retention you need the denture to have to work. Consult your provider for a specific answer relevant to you.

See below: If you need them out, then do it and you will have to get used to a new less than ideal appliance.  If you don't need them out dont do it.  Dentures are better than no teeth but not even close to natural teeth.  Complications can be pain, swelling, dry socket, infection.  The denture can alter speech, taste, **chewing and facial esthetics. Likely will need some relines along the way too.

how long does it take gums to heal before i can wear dentures? i had a full mouth extraction done last week, and would like to know how long before my gums heal enough that i can get dentures and use adhesive?

Several : Several different aspects to this question.

Sometimes dentures are made prior to the extractions so you can leave the office wearing them.  This is called an immediate denture procedure.  The advantage is that you have teeth right away, the disadvantage is you may require more postoperative adjustments to the dentures to make them fit properly.

The second technique involves extracting the teeth and letting the gums heal for about 4 weeks before beginning the process to make the dentures.  This takes longer and you have to go without teeth for awhile but it gives a better fit.

Well made dentures should not require the use of adhesives.  As the jaw bone slowly reabsorbs over time you may find the need for a small amount of adhesive.  If you require a lot of adhesive the denture fit is poor and they should be remade.

Dental implants.: One way to do it as there are many, with a well fitting denture, conventional implants may be placed and "burried" under the gums for 3 to 6 months to heal.  When integrated with your bone, attachments are fixed  in the dental office to the implants, as well as in your denture allowing them to  attach, or snap togeather, taking pressure off your bone and gums, and making denture much more stable.

i only have 9 teeth on top jaw. what would be better to get partial or full denture. can't afford implants and don't have insurance?

More info needed: What is the condition of your remaining teeth? If in decent shape and strong, then make a partial. It would be more comfortable than a full denture. Extraction is a one way street, and since you can't afford implants, you will be wearing a full denture for the next 30 to 40 years if you extract your teeth now.

Yes: You can have the tooth in question extracted. And yes, dentures are fabricated to replace missing teeth.

Carefully, patience: Normal post surgical event. However, you should be improving greatly after about 1 week. You are usually cleared for rinsing after 24 - 48 hours -- carefully. Clean the denture with toothpaste and brush first, then 15 mins in effervescent cleaner (i.e.  Efferdent) which will killl bacteria. See your dentist for follow-up. Good luck.

do store-bought liners for dentures work well? they're a lot cheaper than heading back to the dentist, but do they work?

Dr : Dr mcleod has explained it quite well. You get what you pay for.

A denture is a custom fit prosthesis made for you, and only you. It will not fit well in any other mouth. Over time, your mouth changes and it will need adjusting. That's part of the expense of taking good care of yourself.

Do yourself a favor and do it right. Dentistry is not for the do it yourselfer.
