why does my finger swell after an insect bite?

Likely allergic rxn.: You are most likely sensitive or allergic to the insect bites.  Most allergic reactions to insect bites remain localized to the area bitten.  They are characterized by swelling of the bite and itching of the area.  If you are bitten, i would recommend either an antihistamine (oral) or a topical cortisone cream.

Many insect bites: Many different species of insects can cause you to swell from a bite or sting.  Also, every single human responds differently to bites.  Spiders and fire ants can definitely cause swelling.  If you suspect you have swelling form an insect bite or sting, see your primary care doctor or go to the emergency room if the swelling is extreme.

Arm pain?: Are you saying that the pain under your arm is related to the finger swelling?   I do not believe that is normal.

Insect Repellant: Considered safe for children of all ages and for pregnant women, biteblocker organic xtreme uses only plant-based ingredients, like soybean and geranium oils (formulas that use oil of lemon eucalyptus are also botanically derived, but aren't safe for kids younger than age 3). As with most natural insect repellents, protection time varies greatly among individuals -- anywhere from 90 minutes up.

If clustered...: ...In chains or groups, these are likely bedbugs, and bedbugs are very rarely seen.

Several things: You can ice the area or use a cool pack.  You can elevate th hand above the level of the heart.  You can try an antihistamine if you beleive this is an allergice type reaction with itching.  However, an insect bite that causes the entire fist to swell may be signs of infeciton.  Is there reddness, streaking, fever, heat at the site, or other symptoms.  You may need to be seen quickly by a doctor.

2 large itchy insect bites near my collarbone, i was putting calamine on them and felt what seemed like a small moveable  lymph node about 1 away . i went to the doc who saidhe did not feel a lymph node. could the bites cause a node to swell?

Lymph node : Enlarged lymph nodes near the collar bone can be a sign of very concerning conditions. I have found serious health conditions after others did not note small lymph nodes around the collar bone. Certainly, if the node goes away it could have been from a local, non concerning infections of the skin, like from an insect. If you feel a node near the collarbone you should speak to the doctor again.

i have very bad reactions to all insect bites but mosquitos seem to be the worst. the entire area swells, gets hot, hard, and extremely itchy. when i was you they gave me niacin to keep fleas from biting me, will the same work for mosquitos & spiders?

: Did it stop the fleas or did you get rid of them. If so worth a try but by hunch is that it will not help.  Using Off may help more. Give then both a try and let us know.

Insect bites: It would appear you are quite allergic to insect bites. See an allergist to be tested and treated for insects
