There really isn't a: way to cure urinary tract infections on your own . Urinalysis will show infection and culture can show organism involved. Appropriate antibiotics would be prescribed. Take care.

Not much: Uti is a bacteridl infection requiring prescription strenth antibiotics. Cranberry juice cn sometimes help prevent but once you have an infection most likely you would need antibiotics.

UTI pain: Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen would be safe pain medications in breastfeeding but may not be helpful if your pain is due to UTI.  Drink large amounts of water, consider some cranberry juice (helps dislodge bacteria) and see your doctor if not better in a couple days.

Maybe STD?: UTI is rare in males your age. If you're having discharge from the penis, it's an STD:  gonorrhea, chlamydia, or nongonococcal urethritis (NGU). If painful or urgent urination, without discharge, maybe UTI after all. See a doctor or clinic for diagnosis; the best antibiotics are different for STDs versus UTI. If you have an STD, you also need blood tests for syphilis and HIV. Good luck!

You need guidance: If you have symptoms with urination then it's possible that you have a UTI or something called urethritis. This should definitely be checked out by a doctor, because there is the risk it could worsen and affect other parts of the body. There are simple tests that can be done to determine the cause -and only then will treatment best be targeted to eradicate the symptoms and cure the disease. See MD

Careful: Not all urinary symptoms are UTI and urine studies will be needed in order to get a better sense of the antibiotics needed to treat in case it proves to be a refractory infection. Taking random antibiotics may result in bacterial resistance. Stick with your doc, either primary care or Gyn.

UTI: Doxydar can be taken for UTI's. Treatment is 2 pills twice a day for ten days.

Finish meds: An uncomplicated lower urinary tract (involving bladder, not kidneys) infection usually can be successfully treated with 3 to 5 days of appropriate antibiotics. The doctor may prescribe a longer course of treatment if the infection has been present for a prolonged time or if it recurrent. Unless the medication is causing a problem, i would advise finishing it to be sure the infection is eradicated.

Abx : You should call your Ob doc right away. The fact that you are sick needs to be looked at and also they can help you find an alternative choice. All infections in pregnancy need to be treated.

Depends: It will depend upon the organism producing the UTI and its sensitivities to antibiotics, and the nature of the UTI (upper v. Lower tract infection, simple v. Complicated, etc.)  most of the antibiotics in general use today are safe, and even if they enhance renal insufficiency this is often reversible.  Would, however, stay away from aminoglycosides (gentamicin, tobramycin, etc.).
