Yes..: Metformin has 4 major mechanisms of action:1) it decreases glucose absorption from the GI tract 2) it inhibits production of glucose by the liver 3), it increases sensitivity of Insulin receptors and it 4)increases fatty acid oxidation. So that should not be an uncommon experience for patients.

Avoid fruits: Fructose is the main sugar in fruits (which is how they came about the name).Milk products have lactose, and most starchy foods like  potatoes have complex carbohydrates.If you just read labels and stay away from fructose and raw fruits, you should be fine.

must trim a few pounds to help reverse prediabetes.  i can lose weight easier with fibrous carbs than i can when i cut out all carbs.  is that wise?

Carbs: It is uhhealthy to eliminate all carbs from diet.  Simple carbs as in pastry and junk food are best avoided.  Complex carbs as in vegetables can be helpful.  Here's a link

Complex carbs digest more slowly and produce less of an insulin spike.

Glycemic index: Berries, cherries, apples and pears are all "low glycemic index" forms of fruit. They are also nutrient dense and must still be balanced out with heart healthy protein foods such as nuts.  Combining a starch with a higher protein food can slow the uptake of simple sugars and reduce the glycemic load. If you are a diabetic be very careful with portion size. Even low glycemic foods can inc glucose.

It could be: the rate at which these substances are metabolized. Once in your digestive tract sugar hydrolyzes into fructose and glucose. Glucose starts out as a carbohydrate but is quickly stored as a fat. Rice and wheat are made up of more complex chains of carbohydrates with fewer simple sugars. The effect of these foods on raising blood sugar may not be as rapid as with simple sugar. Hope this helps:)

Fermented...: Many fibers, particularly the water insoluble kind, are readily fermented by your gut flora. Some people have certain intolerances to bean husks (try beano), to wheat/barley/rye (gluten sensitivity), &amp;/or have a particularly active population in their gut of gas-forming organisms (try bifidobacter-containing probiotics). Maybe altered GI motility, ibs, air swallowing, maldigestion/malabsorption?
