Inpatient treatment may be needed, but the greatest expanse of care happens in outpatient settings.  12 steps work for those who work them, and are the most common type of recovery ; support groups. One beer?: No, not one beer per day, unless it's a very large beer. Usually, one will not experience any alcohol withdrawal symptoms without drinking at least 4-8 beverage alcohol equivalents for every day for one month. A beverage alcohol equivalent means one 12 ounce beer, one 4 ounce glass of wine or one shot of liquor. Alcoholism has to do with how impactful the alcohol has on impairment of functioning.

Usually tension: Regional dysesthesias in that area are almost always due to tension.  Look inside yourself and learn why you are tense and why you resort to alcohol.

Many approaches: There's a drug called Antabuse (disulfiram) that makes you vomit if you drink alcohol. Another drug, acamprosate, helps in the maintenance of abstinence. But nothing can "do this for you." best results seem to come when people are committed to stop drinking and participate in a support program such as alcoholics anonymous. Read "sober for good" by anne fletcher. Good luck to you. It's well worth the effort.

Multiple ways: To treat alcoholism, there are both inpatient and outpatient programs.  Many are run in accord with 12-step philosophy.  Visit aa (http://www.Aa.Org) to get an idea.  Also there are aftercare recovery groups that teach skills for living without depending on alcohol.  Addiction medicine docs can help too ; and psychiatrists to treat conditions that might interfere with your recovery.

Anal fissure: Anal fissures are essentially cracks in the lining of the anal canal that develop due to trauma, most commonly passage of dry hard stool. It is definitely treatable. Many topical medications have been tried with varying success rates. A short surgical procedure called tailored lateral internal sphincerotomy has the best success rates.

Same as anyone else: Unfortunately, there are few programs specifically tailored for the elderly, or for people with cognitive problems, but any treatment program can be helpful. He may need special assistance with the literature that is given out, or some help with understanding what is happening in groups, but many programs will try to address all of their patient's special needs.  Family members can go to alanon.

It is treatable: Lymphedema can be treated but usually not completely cured. Long term treatment measures needed. An expert physical therapist can be very helpful.
