Same as anyone else: Unfortunately, there are few programs specifically tailored for the elderly, or for people with cognitive problems, but any treatment program can be helpful. He may need special assistance with the literature that is given out, or some help with understanding what is happening in groups, but many programs will try to address all of their patient's special needs. Family members can go to alanon.

Evaluation: I'd recommend a medical work-up and neuropsychological assessment in order to determine the best treatment. There is a disorder of thinking and behavior called wernicke-korsakoff syndrome that is caused by chronic alcohol-related vitamin deficiency. However, someone with a history of alcoholism may have another type of dementia, or other medical issues that affect thinking and behavior.
