Yes: But they need to be developed. Red cell Transketolase activity evaluates for vitamin B1 but is available only at a rare laboratory. The trouble is that vitamin therapy has not yet gained the attention of the majority of physicians.

Lowers chol + TG: Niacin lowers cholesterol, raises the "good" HDL and lowers triglycerides - but at much higher doses than 250.  You need to get up to 1500 mg/day or more to see much effect. The downside is that it can cause flushing and raise both sugar (not good if you are diabetic) and uric acid (not good if you are prone to gout.).

Goals: Will have to be set prior to take any chemicals. While vitamins may help individuals with deficient states and/or symptoms attributable to specific deficiencies, vitamin supplements are no longer believed to have proven effects, maybe with the exception of placebo effect. Talk to your treating physician if you would be a good candidate for vitamin supplementation.

Depends......: If your child's diet is adequate, there is no need for supplemental vitamins. Most vitamins can be absorbed only to a certain level, after which they are eliminated. If there is a concern that your child is showing signs of a specific vitamin deficiency, you should discuss this with his pediatrician.

The one you like: There are hundreds of brands of prenatal vitamins. My suggestion to patients is to try a few and find one you like. The best vitamin is the one you will actually take. All contain Folic Acid which is important. Some contain stool softeners which is helpful for pregnancy constipation. Some contain DHA so you do not have to take a separate pill.

Vitamins: A good multivitamin is a good idea.  It's like an insurance policy for when we don't eat right, don't sleep well, or are especially stressed.  Go to a good store or get some guidance because the popular brands are typically very week and not helpful.  The dose (read label and check that half or more of the ingredients are several 100 per cent above RDA.  Dose more important than a long list.
