Depends on what your: Problem is and what your body type and medical condition is. Many problems can now be treated by not doing a hysterectomy. I do most of mine through the laparoscope of the robot, or vaginally. Also I do many ablations in my office which is a procedure where i put a balloon ij heh uterus ( takes 8 minutes) and it gets rid of the endometrial tissue so no more or very light bleeding after so no tah.

Pap after Hyst: If your hysterectomy was done for a non-cancerous reason and up have never had a severe pre-cancerous cervical lesion then the current reccomendations do not suggest further pap smears.

Cancer spread ?'s: The described surgery (TAH, BS&amp;O, bilateral lymph node dissection, omentectomy) will provide tissue which is examined by a pathologist, and will indicate whether remote evidence of cancer is present, especially in the lymph nodes and omentum.  If the pathology reports are negative, is it not necessary to also undergo radiation, but future surveillance is also necessary.

See below: Removal of uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and ovaries through an abdominal incision.  If you are a candidate and do not have cancer, you may be able to have your hysterectomy done robotically and laparoscopically.   These methods usually have a shorter recovery time.

No: You should not be having severe pain two weeks after your surgery.  I would notify your surgeon about your symptoms. You should be seen.

Abdominal incision: An incision which still drains usually reflects an old hematoma (collection of blood) in the incision. Cleaning the would with "salt water" will not correct this.  Eventually, all the accumulated fluid will stop or be absorbed. Schedule an exam with the surgeon who performed the hysterectomy so that the drainage can be examined and treated. Sometimes there is an opening below the incision.

Risky: You increase your risk of opening the incision at the top of the vagina by resuming relations that early.  The risk of bleeding and infection is also greater.

Hysterectomy: A total abdominal hysterectomy could last 45 minutes to multiple hours depending on how complicated your case is, prior surgeries, your weight, findings intraoperatively, cancer related surgery etc. If it is for a thin patient, with no prior surgeries, no pelvic masses etc, probably around 45 min to 2 hours depending on surgeon experience. This can vary a lot.
