If Hb has been dropping slowly for years, e.g. blood loss due to intestinal parasite or gynecologic issue, your body has time to compensate so that level won't be fatal but it may cause serious &amp; irreversible heath issues

: Yes, such a low hemoglobin is dangerous, not necessarily though the actual value 5 or 6, but the danger is created by the speed at which the hemoglobin is dropping. It has to do with stopping the bleed or treating the condition, that may be serious that is causing the anemia or low hemoglobin.

Shock vs anemia: Hemorrhagic shock results from acute bleeding. In hemorrhagic shock, the hemoglobin is often near normal as you are losing plasma and red cells at the same rate. By contrast, your anemia of 7.6 being relatively stable isn't going to turn suddenly into shock. Your physician needs to find the cause and treat it -- hopefully without your needing to be transfused.
