Need gb challenge: CCK availability has been scarce recently. Certain fatty meals have been compared to CCK and validated in literature.You do need a challenge; I use Boost kids essential formula as a fatty meal substitute in my pediatric patientsi There probably is adult substitute. This allows evauation of contraction of gall bladder which helps diagnose dyskinesia and chronic gall bladder disease

HIDA scan is easy: Hida scan is a common test by nuclear medicine.  Hida is injected into blood, then is taken up by your liver & excreted into the bile ducts. If your gallbladder functions (is not sick), it will "light up" when it concentrates the hida material.  Giving cck then allows measurement of gallbladder emptying time, patency of the bile ducts, & how effectively the hida material enters your small bowel.

if is up and down the test is not reliable
and depend on your symptoms

Pain at the: injection site or abdominal pain?  A standard HIDA scan should not induce abdominal pain.  If you also received a CCK injection to check the gallbladder ejection fraction, however, it could cause temporary pain.

HIDA: Hida scan involves IV injection of a tc tracer.  The tracer doesn't cause any side effects.  Physicians look to be sure that the gallbladder and bowel fill with tracer to rule out cystic duct (cholecystitis) or common bile duct obstruction.  Hida  is  performed with or without cck. Cck is helpful for chronic conditions to determine a gallbladder ejection fraction.   Cck may cause cramping or pain.

Many things: Liver function, bile ducts, gall bladder, and bowel.Hida mimics bile excretion in body.Obstructions to duct of gall bladder, main bile duct, spasm of sphincter where bile duct enters duodenum.Cystic dilatations or outpouchings of common bile duct called choledochal cysts.In infants, lack of bile ducts or biliary atresia. Sometimes bowel obstruction or malrotation.Duodenogastric reflux/bile gastritis.

Liver tests: A hida scan is a scan where a medicine that is taken up and excreted by you liver is tagged with a radioactive particle that can be captured on a monitor. It measures if you havea bile blockage or leak. An mrcp is an MRI that looks at your bile and pancreatic ducts. It is a noninvasive way to avoid a endoscopic  retrograde cholangiopancreatogram (ercp).

Yes: Hida scan is a method to look at the ability of the liver to excrete a radioactive dye - a nuclear medicine study.  It may tell if there is blockage of bile coming out of the liver or if the gallbladder is not working.  Since it does not involve instrumentation of the pancreas, it does not worsen pancreatitis.  It does have limitations, cannot be used if the bilirubin is elevated and not specific.

Depends: Are you having abdominal discomfort with bloating & nausea after eating? Do you have gallstones? Did the scan recreate abdominal problems? If you are having appropriate symptoms, about 80% of people get better with gallbladder surgery. But remember others do not get better & repeatedly ask on this site why they are still having difficulties after surgery.
