Nosebleeds: In a child this are, nosebleeds are usually due to trauma, often from nose picking. The dry air in air conditioned settings doesn't help either. A small amount of either vasaline or antibiotic ointment, applied gently to the inside of the nose, will help keep the lining moist, which will help prevent nosebleeds.

No: Superficial blood vessels during pregnancy are quite fragile. This along with the hormone changes of pregnancy make them more susceptible to spontaneous bleeding like nose bleeds and cough induced bleeding. Usually the bleeding is small in amount and subsides after pregnancy is over.

Blood in nose: Increased nasal congestion is quite common during pregnancy. About 20% of women can experience nose bleeds during pregnancy. There is increased blood volume during pregnancy, which can increase pressure and if small blood vessels break it could cause a nose bleed. Crying hard can also increase risk.

Epistaxis : 80% of people experience this in their lives. A common cause is dry, hot air in the western US, causing nasal dryness and crusting. The nasal tissue cracks and bleeds easily. Treatment includes humidification in bedroom, nasal saline sprays &amp; sometimes vaseline in the nose. It's not a major health hazard, but should an ENT doctor who can better evaluate. There may be problems not seen by PCM.

my mother is anemic born 02/03/1966 she is losing blood had to have a transfusion and they still do not know why having migraines and nose bleeds?

Anemia: There is a long work up for anemia but with the nose bleeds evaluation for a bleeding disorder is usually performed .  Since she is 50, she would be recommended a screening colonoscopy and if her stool shows that it has blood then also an upper endoscopy (looking in stomach and colon for blood loss).  The other source commonly in premenopausal women is due to abnormal menstruation.

ER: Apply pressure to both nostrils with your thumb and fingers, breath through your mouth, and go to the ER to have it evaluated especially if it is due to trauma. If you have headlightness, call 911 for help, apply pressure to the nostril, lay down to the side to get enough blood to your brain and you don't aspirate it.
