Completely different: Although both are known as muscle relaxants, Zanaflex (tizanidine) is really a muscle relaxant. It works by decreaseing spinal cord reflexes. Soma is actually more of a sedative even though it is prescribed as a muscle relaxant. They are different chemically and completely different in how they work.

Would advise, that Soma (carisoprodol) metabolizes to miltown, a drug removed from market years ago, due to abuse potential and risk!  talk at length with your doctor regarding this product.
