Several weeks: Phlebitis refers to inflammation in superficial veins, but more generally implies clot in them. This is not the dangerous deep vein clot, or dvt. With appropriate conservative management, including compression stockings, nsaid's, elevation, moist hot compresses, and exercise, the acute symptoms usually resolve within a few weeks, although it may take months for the full clot load to be reabsorbed.

?venous stasis?: Sounds like she has chronic phlebitis secondary venous insufficency . The valves in the viens arent competent and blood stagnates in her lower extremities. This causes swelling that gets worse as day goes on. Brown coloring from heme staining the skin called stasis dermatitis.

i had a phlebitis on my left leg. i need to wear compression hose  (15-20 mmhg) when taking the plane. i am flying tomorrow and i just realised my current hose is damaged. where can i buy a new one over the counter ? thanks

Retail medic. supply: A local retail medical supply store should sell those, but a prescription may be needed, unless the last hose was bought at the same store and they are willing to sell another like a "refill." If a prescription is needed, one can call the prior prescribing doctor for one. Consumer pharmacies like Walgreens or RiteAid may or may not have medical-grade compression hose, but one can always ask.

Could be, but...: You should have this looked at asap. You need to make sure this is not a developing  infection.  If it is not an infection, it could be any number of inflammation problems - phlebitis being one of them. Gout or another inflammatory arthritis is a possibility as well as a skin inflammation indicating some underlying systemic problem.  Basic lab work can rule out a significant problem.

Viral illness: Your signs & sxs suggest either an autoimmune process or viral inoculation.  Automimmune disease promote "clotting" such as lupus.  But the "lumps" could be urticaria from an allergic reaction.  Seek an md to assist as you may need a Medrol (methylprednisolone) dose pack (steroids).  Last point: do these lesions itch or not itch?  An important point in dx.
