i havemild pain in my shoulder, but only during certain motions, like extending my arm out palm up and hitting a volleyball. do i need a contrast mri?

Accepted Answer

Not Yet.: It seems you have bursitis of your shoulder. Before you jump the gun to getting an mri, first try to see a doctor and start using some anti-inflammatory medications (i.E: ibuprofen) and some physical therapy. If no improvements in few weeks , then an MRI may be warranted.

jammed my thumb on a volleyball serve. my fingers were tingly. lots of pain in my thumb & wrist area. today thumb & part of palm is bruised. sprain?

Yes: Probably jammed the joint. Rest the thumb. Ice if helps. But if you rest the thumb should recovery but may take a few weeks

Powerful Serve: Its an argument against underhand serves versus overhand serves.  The overhand serve—generally faster and more powerful than its underhand counterpart—is far more aggressive and can be used as a valuable offensive weapon.  By hitting the center of the ball with your overhand serve, creates more power and is harder to return.

i play volleyball. 3 weeks ago i noticed a bruise in my left hand but then faded. i think it appears when i play. do you know what it is? ty

Hand bruise: You are rupturing some of the superficial veins when striking the ball with your hand .try protecting it with tape and or a glove. You should also decrease the amount of time you r playing per day by at least 30 %!

hi, i was playing volleyball 3 nights ago, and i hit the ball weird. the next morning, my hand just above ulna hurt when i bend up/pressure. not sure of swelling since i went to bed right after. been wrapping it, how much longer should i do that?

: You probably have a mild sprain. If no swelling put warm to hot compresses around wrist for the next few days. If no results than see a orthopedist for exam and possible x-ray. You can take Advil or a Tylenol if pain persists.

Nerve or vasculature: The evolution described makes me wonder about either a vascular or neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome, although other mechanisms might be considered.. Have your doctor thoroughly evaluate and design the next step.  Put volleyball on hold until this is clarified.

i have outer wrist pain. my wrist pops a lot when i press on the outer part when my wrist/hand meets. the popping hurts. happening 2 months, i play volleyball. pain when twisting wrist outward and flexing wrist towards me and planking on my hands?

: What you mean by the "outer part" (thumb [radial] side or pinky [ulnar] side) could help answer this question. The motion you describe would strain the radial side, especially while planking, but the wrist involves articulations between 2 forearm, 8 wrist, and 5 hand bones, held together with ligaments and moved by tendons. You should see a hand surgeon or orthopedist for a thorough examination.

got hurt by a volleyball. feeling like sprain in left hand fingers. i don't have a fracture though. what should i do?

Let me help: If you do not have fracture does not mean you do not have problems.
I will do this, wear wrist support for  a week , take Motrin 400 mg with food and see if improved if it did most likely is minor sprain, if did not go to the doctor and check it out.

Sweaty palms: The most likely cause is that you are very concerned about some things. If that is the case please see a Psychologist.

If that is not the case discuss your issues with your doctor.

Hyperhidrosis.: Suspect this has been lifelong problem in which case it is just you.  If this is new might want to see doc to exclude meds or hyper .Autonomic state.
