If your child develops a fever over 99.5 then you should be looking for a source of infection (upper respiratory, skin, diarrhea, etc) Any temperature above 103.5 in a child is considered an emergency and should be seen in an ER.

From 97.6 to 100.3: Everyone's temperature runs from about 97.6 f to 100.3 f on any given day at any given time based on metabolic activity.  98.6 f is an average.  Some people do run hotter or colder at baseline.

every day for past 6 months in the late afternoon/evening, my oral temperature spikes to around 99.6-100.0 but then slowly goes back down to 98.5.  in the morning, its 97.7ish.  does this sound normal?  i know temperatures can fluctuate.
