See below: A physiatrist, (specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation) would be a great doctor to see for this problem. He/she will take your history, perform a detailed physical examination, order appropriate tests as needed and design a rehabilitation plan that should help you relieve pain. Btw, surgery is in no way appropriate for the vast majority of  lower back pain syndromes.

Back pain: I would always recommend seeing your pcp first so they can exam you or a spine specialist. When you see a spine specialist they will do a thorough exam and would get a MRI to check your disc spaces, nerves and facet joints.  Once getting those results and comparing it to your history and physical exam, they then can formulate a plan from most conservative to least conservative.

Depends: Would initially recommend over the counter medications such as tylenol (acetaminophen) and Ibuprofen as well as rest.  If no better, physical therapy.  Might need an MRI by then.  Epidural injections would be an option as well.

Pain in Back: I would need to know more about your pain.  It's quality, intensity and associated symptoms.  Also it would be helpful to know more about your medical history.  The numbness is where?  Pain can be due to muscular strains, sprains, muscle spasms, or more structural causes such as nerve or nerve root related.  It can be due to muscle disease or related to medications or electrolyte abnormalities.

Back : Back pain can be caused by a variety of conditions, including the muscle, disc pain, or irritation to the nerve roots.  Kidney infections can cause back pain as well.  Advil or tylenol (acetaminophen) and rest usually helps muscle pain.  If a patient had swelling as you describe, with a golf ball sized lump, then they should consult their physician for a physical examination.

Not enough info!: There is not enough information to be able to answer your question.  Does the pain hurt only with movement?  Have you changed your exercise routine?  Do over the counter pain relievers, in normal doses, help?  If your pain persists, see a doc this week.  If you have fever, numbness, tingling, weakness, or loss of control of bowel or bladder function, or black or bloody stools, go to an ER.

Back pain and: leg twitching MAY involve pinched nerves.  Please see your doc.  After your diagnosis is clear, you may find a chiropractor or physical therapist helpful.  Your doc will advice.  Peace and good health.

moderate back pain for 3 wks. been to chiro and md. doctor ordered an x-ray that showed nothing wrong. the pain feels bone deep not muscle related.

Back pain workup: Xray will not show nerve, MRI might be indicated. Back pain can alos be referred from internal organs like kidneys.
