Heereditary disease: Glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency is a hereditary condition in which red blood cells break down when the body is exposed to certain drugs or the effect of  infection. It occurs when a person is missing or doesn't have enough of an enzyme called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, which helps red blood cells work properly. Too little G6PD leads to the destruction of red blood cells (hemolysis). . The effect of hemolysis is  usually brief since  the body continues to produce new red blood cells.

G6PD: Hereditary g6pd is suspected if someone has a low blood count, a high reticulocyte count (newly forming red cells) and some degree of jaundice (yellowness).  It can be associated with exposure to drugs as sulfa meds, antimalarials, "moth balls" and even from infection.  Can also affect WBC in mediterranean form.  Fava beans can also be the cause in some people.

Ok to start solids: It is ok to start cereal by 4-6 months, but because wheat allergy is common, rice or oatmeal is usually recommended as a first cereal. The type with added fruit and milk is ok.  Continue the same infant formula until your child is close to a year old.  To give variety, add a different vegetable  to the feedings once a week, unless there is a reaction, like rash or vomiting or diarrhea.

Is NOT Safe: G6PD Deficiency; a genetic disorder; a key enzyme is lacking causing red blood cell destruction, anemia, jaundice, &amp; more. Symptoms are triggered by: foods (fava beans, ascorbic acid, soy), drugs (Sulfa), other (infections, moth balls, henna), Eucalyptus oil is not safe for any child regardless of having G6PD Def. Safety of the feeding the leaves to children is also unknown &amp; should be avoided.

Tapioca is ok: Haven't heard of any problems with eating tapioca, which is a starch made from the root of cassava, used for tapioca pearls, puddings, and as a thickening agent in foods.
