You felt differently: Apparently, alcohol made you feel differently - possibly, calmer, more relaxed, disinhibited. He also possible, that you have a problem with blood sugar regulation: alcohol is an easy fuel, even easier then a carbohydrate. Talk to your doctor.

Yes: 1. Aa helps, even though is not ideal.
2. There are many reasons people crave alcohol. Are you anxious? Blood sugar regulation problem?
I treat patients with medications, but you can find in the literature that vitamins and supplements also help: vit b1, b3, b6, b12; magnesium, 5-htp, kudzu, etc etc etc. Talk to the doctor.

See your doctor !: Antidepressants are relatively safe these days. Complications should be promptly evaluated. You may be in the wrong medication or being treated for the wrong condition.

Taking with others: One best way to overcome cravings is to talk about them with someone else who cares or who has had the same struggles such as people in the rooms of aa. Medications can be helpful as well but only if used with other support. Getting around healthy people and finding other ways to fill the void left by alcohol, eating healthy, exercise, they all help. You dont have to do it alone.

Yes: Naltrexone helps with cravings and comes in pill or an injection that lasts 30 days.
Other meds that have also shown some promise are topamax, (topiramate) baclofen, neurontin, odansetron, bases on genetics, some people respond to certain meds better than others.
All can help if motivated and getting other support.

Not always: Some alcoholics "binge, " and can go for periods w/o any, but whenever drink, do so "to excess." daily/chronic alcoholics do tend to keep it in the house, for regular use, or "just in case" run out during night or blue-law periods, etc. If concerned, seek assistance w/alcohol abuse evaluation and treatment, if necessary.

If you have an : Alcohol problem - encourage you to become involved in alcoholics anonymous. Call your sponsor if you have cravings. Read from the big book. Call someone on your support phone tree. An addiction medicine specialist may prescribe medications to decrease symptoms. Auricular acupuncture reduces alcohol cravings. If you have a behavioral health provider let them know about your struggle.
